Al McCoy, The Artist

Al McCoy is an award-winning, self-taught artist whose delightful, magical images show the world through eyes of hope and optimism.

The subjects of Al's paintings are represented in a whimsical, naive style all his own. When asked to elaborate on the origins of his unique style, Al says, "It stems from the idea that there’s really no such thing as a bad day, only a bad attitude." The attitude he approaches his challenges with include: God’s love, God’s grace, and God’s own Righteousness that He places in each one of us when we trust in Him for salvation.

In his charming paintings, he often includes a smiling sun peeking out from behind a fluffy cloud graced with three birds. "Christ is the Lord of my life, so the sun represents walking in His marvelous light that both illuminates and warms my soul. On a white cloud representing heaven, are the three birds - the Father, Son and Holy Spirit."

"I have a lot of fun creating my artwork," he says, "especially all the little details I put into each piece. I call them "God’s fingerprints." God’s fingerprints are upon my life, so I love to leave God’s fingerprints all over my work."

Al enjoys the flexibility of mixed media.  He uses colored pencils over watercolors to produce rich, vibrant colors.  Americana, old-time country living, romantic seasides, doggies, and kitties are his favorite themes.  He often incorporates uplifting anecdotes, optimistic verse, and original poetry into his work. Al has exhibited broadly and his work is held in numerous private collections.

Al was raised in California. Following college, he served in the United States Air Force as an Electronic Intelligence Analyst in Japan for ten years. He returned to California after his service to pursue a career in art. Al lives with his lovely wife, Sue, and their adorable Scottish Terrier, Pepper, in Newport Beach, California.
